MYOTONIA~ (noun) temporary muscular rigidity.
"Fainting" does not harm the goat. When a myotonic goat is startled, their legs become stiff. This causes the goat to fall over.
Fainting goats do not fall over every time their legs stiffen.
Due to their myotonic nature, they do not climb or jump fences. Therefore, fainting goats are easily contained in a fence.
Goats do NOT like to get wet. They head for shelter when it rains. Shelter could be something as simple as a doghouse with clean, dry hay on the floor.
Fainting goats usually make good mothers and are easy kidders (have babies easily without the help of humans).
Does should not be bred until they are at least 1 year old. Goats can breed before 1 year of age, so the does and bucks should be kept separate until the doe is at least 1 year old. It takes about 5 months of pregnancy to have kids. Goats usually have twins, but can have more at a time. "More than twins" will need to be supplemented with a bottle. Goats need annual vaccinations, wormed and hooves trimmed every 4~6 months. Their lifespan is 10~12 years.
Goats are social animals and need companions (just like potato chips... you can't have just one).
